Easter Events Near Midhurst, Petworth and West Sussex!

The Easter Holidays are approaching fast! Here are some ideas to keep your little ones entertained this Easter!


Peter Rabbit & Easter Egg Hunt Parent & Child Holiday Session 18m-8yrs

Sunday 2nd April, 9.30-11.30am HFT, Sussex Orchards, Freeman Close, Walberton

Peter Rabbit has been causing mayhem in the woods!! A very mischievous Peter rabbit has hidden the vegetable ingredients for the soup around the woodlands! Can you help find them before he and his friends eat them all?!

Here are some of the fun activities on offer throughout the morning:

  • Help prepare the vegetable ingredients for the campfire soup.

  • Saw a piece of wood to make into a log bunny!

  • Make an animal character mask.

  • Enjoy a hot chocolate around the campfire

  • Make a mud soup in the mud kitchen area

  • Whittle a stick to toast a marshmallow over the fire

  • Easter Egg hunt in the Orchard

Prices are £15.00 per child, includes all craft items to take home, drink, marshmallows, chocolate Easter Egg and cooking activity.

Parents and children under 18 months attend for free when accompanied by a full paying child.


Fishers Farm Park – Magic Magicians

Easter holidays – 1st April to 16th April 10 am to 5 pm, Fishers Farm Park, Newpound Lane, Wisborough Green, West Sussex, RH14 0EG

There are lots of Easter activities for the whole family. With an appearance from the Easter bunny and his furry friends over the Easter weekend. At the Animal Encounters Barn, you will be able to see the cutest baby lambs & goat kids. Some lucky visitors might even get to bottle-feed them in the daily Farm Shows! There will be chicks, piglets, baby goats and so much more to be seen in the daily Animal Handling Sessions and Farm Show. As well as the usual giant adventure playgrounds outside and inside (while mum relaxes with a hot drink), soft play, the animal farm, animal encounters and tractor-trailer rides. Special mention for the Sky Fall for the older children which includes jumping off a platform onto a giant stunt pillow. Such a brilliant range of fun things to do.

Tickets need to be booked online in advance. under 2s are free, 2-year-old and older people (60+) are £17.95, and everyone else is £19.95 (peak season). Annual membership is also available.


Arundel Wetland Centre

Open throughout the holidays 10 am to 4 pm with the last admission an hour before closing. WWT Arundel Wetland Centre, West Sussex, BN18 9PB

Join the duck detectives in this Easter activity. Get closer than ever to nature on their Easter trail and reveal the wildlife secrets only a true Duck Detective knows. Pick up a free Duck Detective trail file to quack the case and become a fully-fledged Duck Detective. There is also pond dipping which needs to be booked at the admissions desk for £3 per family. As well as enjoy a gentle 20-minute guide ride immersing yourself in wetland nature in reed beds, wet meadows and carr woodland with a wetland boat safari. Book your ride at the admissions desk for £3 per person.

Prices without gift aid are £13.13 for an adult, £7.09 for a child and £34.40 for a family. Children under 4 are free.


Easter Bunny Boat Trips – Chichester

1st April to the 10th April running three times a day at 10:30 am, 12:45 pm and 15:30 pm, Chichester Canal, Basin Road, Chichester, West Sussex PO197DT

Why not get on the water for this Easter activity in Chichester? A boat trip on the hunt for Easter bunnies on the Chichester canal. There will be Spring activities and treats. With refreshments available for all.

Tickets must be booked in advance and cost £10 for an adult or a child. There are a limited number of infants that can travel for free but these must be booked in advance as well.


Hollycombe Working Steam Museum

Running over the bank holidays. They will be open from Good Friday 7th April through to Bank Holiday Monday 10th April. Gates open from 11.30 am to 5 pm each day with rides from 12 noon. Hollycombe Steam In The Country, Iron Hill, Liphook, Hampshire, GU30 7LP

Opening for the 2023 season over the Easter weekend. There will be both the narrow-gauge railway and Garden Railway running. In the fairground, the Golden Gallopers, Steam Swings, Chair-o-Planes and Children’s Rides will be running. As well as rides the Road Steam, Portable Steam, Steam Farm, Museum Shop, Cafe and Gardens will also be open.

Adults cost £25, children £20 with under 3s being free. They also offer a two adult and two child ticket for £80.


National Trust Petworth House & Park

The trail is running from the 1st of April to the 10th of April from 10.00 am to 5 pm. The last entrance to the trail is at 3.30 pm, Petworth House and Park, Petworth, West Sussex, GU28 9LR

A National Trust Easter Egg hunt is always a good option, and this is a great one in Petworth. The family trail has games, puzzles and crafts along its route. Costs the price of the trail is £3 per child and includes a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg at the end. The Easter Egg trail will take around an hour and a half to complete.

Entrance is free for National Trust members, prices without gift aid are £12 for an adult, £6 for a child and £30 for a family or £18 with one adult.


West Dean Gardens

7th to the 10th of April open 10.30 am to 5 pm during the week and from 9 am at the weekend, West Dean, Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 0QZ

Bring family and friends to West Dean Gardens near Chichester during the Easter holidays to follow the Easter-themed trail to receive a chocolate prize. Don’t forget to pick up an activity sheet. There are 500,000 Spring bulbs to admire. The Garden Bar will be open for the weekend, between 10 am and 4 pm, for cream teas, a variety of homemade cakes and tray bakes, and hot and cold beverages.

A child ticket costs £2 and an adult £12 which is the normal garden entry cost.


The Noviam Museum in Chichester – The Wild Escape Workshop

Open 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th of April between 10 am and 1 pm. The museum is also open Tuesday to Friday 10 am to 4.30 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Novium Museum, Tower Street, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1QH

Suitable for children aged 7-11 only. The Wild Escape creative workshops will explore the important role nature and wildlife play in the local environment. Developed and led by professional artist Rachel Johnston, inspiration will be taken from objects found within the museum. As a starting point for a discussion of the importance of animals in the natural world. The young artists will then work with textiles to make prints of their chosen animals and tell the story of what it would be like if they could make their ‘Wild Escape’ into the local habitat.

Admission is free although certain exhibitions will be charged.


Mystery Trails

Running throughout March 2023, Across the towns and villages of Horsham, Southwater, Billingshurst, Pulborough, Henfield, Steyning and Storrington.

Whistlestop Arts have created seven FREE outdoor mystery trail games across the Horsham District. These immersive and exciting trails have broad appeal; play as a family, with friends, or use them as a team-building exercise. Pick up your pack in the local library or you can download them from their website.


Weald & Downland Museum – The Secret Garden

Matinee performances at 2 pm on the 14th-16th of April. With a 7 pm evening performance on the 14th and 15th only. Weald & Downland Living Museum, Town Lane, Singleton, West Sussex PO18 0EU

This is a completely unique Easter Event in Sussex. A special performance of The Secret Garden, which is brought to you by the Musical Theatre students of the University of Chichester. The Secret Garden’s beautiful tale of forgiveness and renewal is a musical for all ages. The production is set in the stunning award-winning Gridshell Building, at the Weald & Downland Living Museum.

Tickets can be pre-booked on the website, family tickets for two adults and two children cost £49.50 with gift aid or £45.00 without. Adult tickets cost £16.50/£15.00 and children £11.00/£10.00.


Amberley Museum

Steam days are running on the 2nd, 9th and 10th of April, Amberley Museum, New Barn Road, Amberley, Near Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 9LT

Travel back in time and explore the South’s working past in a former quarry and lime works, located in the heart of the South Downs National Park. With over 40 exhibit areas to discover, including a narrow-gauge railway, historic buses, rural crafts and extensive communications displays, there is something for everyone. There are several special Easter events running during the Easter holidays and a vintage car show on the 2nd of April

Tickets can be booked online in advance and it is recommended for weekends, holidays and when they are running special events. This is to ensure there is a car park space. If you are travelling by train you do not need to pre-book. A family of two adults and up to three children costs £43.00 or £39.00 with gift aid. Adults £16/14.50 and children aged 5-16 £7.70/£7. Under 5s are free.


Arundel Castle – Medieval Festival

7th to the 9th of April, Arundel Castle, Arundel, BN18 9AB

It is 1216 and King John has summoned his loyal followers to meet him at Arundel to put down both a rebellion among his own Barons and a potential invasion from France. Set within a large tented encampment on the lower lawns of the castle, the three-day event will have demonstrations of 12th-century combat, archery and falconry, musicians, and have-a-go activities such as archery, and a craft tent. The Knights’ table will be serving a spectacular feast of beef, pork and plant-based Medieval Kababs served in a Lebanese flatbread with a choice of pickles and sauces. There will also be a Festival bar system with local beer, and cider along with cold snacks, water, soft drinks and hot drinks. A wonderful Easter event in Sussex.

Adults £25, children £11 and a family £61.
